The Moment Your Skin Changed. Forever.

The Goldberg Centre for Cosmetic Surgery is so excited to annouce that we now offer Dermalogica Skin Care Products!

Why are we so excited? Well, when Dermalogica meets skin, skin health is redefined.

Dermalogica is the number one choice of skin care professionals and consumers worldwide. For over 25 years, they have been dedicated to delivering skin health results through education, innovation, and professional recommendation, not through advertising, frilly packaging, promises of miracle cures, or overblown hype.

All  products are manufactured in the USA, they have never taken part in animal testing, and Dermalogica is sold only where professional consultation and professional treatments are performed by professional skin therapists. In just over 20 years, Dermalogica has become the number one choice of skin care professionals worldwide, prescribed more often than any other product available.

Dermalogica is a privately owned company (meaning they are not owned by a beauty conglomerate, holding company or financiers) driven first by education and research. Growing from a modest store-front in Marina del Rey to the now 145,000 square foot Corporate Headquarters in Los Angeles (and locations worldwide in close to 50 countries) -- never wavering on our initial vision of skin health and the skin health professional.

So, while their packaging may not be designed to color-coordinate with your bathroom, you can always be sure that Dermalogica has spent their time on delivering your skin the high-performance formulas it needs. Plus, they never use common “beauty” ingredients like Mineral Oil, Lanolin, artificial colors and fragrances or other cheap fillers. Sure, it’s easier to formulate with them, but the bottom line is they’re just bad for your skin. Instead, they use ingredients that they know will work – their confidence is founded by skin care professionals worldwide who use their products in their treatment rooms every day because they get results.

Join our facebook and twitter pages for updates and giveaways on Dermalogica products and treatments! Or come in to the centre for your complimentary skin annalysis and face mapping!

Restylane and Perlane: Is It For Me?

At the Goldberg Centre for Vision Correction & Cosmetic Surgery, patients are offered some of the latest facial injectables that can smooth wrinkles, erase fine lines and add volume to the face. Dr. Goldberg and his team are regarded as some of the most experienced Toronto Restylane and Perlane specialists who use these injectables to achieve remarkable yet natural-looking facial rejuvenation results

Restylane and Perlane: What Are They?

Restylane and Perlane are highly effective facial fillers containing hyaluronic acid. Because this substance occurs in the human tissues naturally, Restylane and Perlane injections do not require extensive pretesting as the risk of allergic reaction is very small. In addition, due to their unique chemical composition, Restylane and Perlane offer longer lasting results than many other, collagen-based facial fillers. Most Restylane / Perlane patients enjoy noticeable rejuvenation results for up to six months following their treatments.

Restylane is a unique formulation of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance which occurs as an important structural element in the skin, and helps maintain moisture and volume. Each Restylane product is a clear gel containing microparticles of a specific size. This allows your health care professional to select the right combination of gels to obtain the effect you desire

Perlane, like  Restylane, is a dermal filler and is a long-lasting gel that, once injected into the skin with an ultra-fine needle, lift and add volume and help diminsh fine lines. Made of a natural substance called hyaluronic acid, it is a completely safe treatment. The hyaluronic acid in Perlane simply supplements the body's age-depleted hyaluronic acid to plump-up the lip or to raise the skin and 'fill in' the particular wrinkle being treated.

The difference between Restylane and Perlane is the size of the particle (with Perlane containing more hyaluronic acid). Perlane is manufactured by the same company that brings you Restylane.

Restylane / Perlane: Is It For Me?

Restylane and Perlane fillers can be used for several purposes. These substances can be injected in the forehead and around the mouth to smooth wrinkles and fine lines. In addition, these fillers can be used for shaping facial contours, such as adding volume to the cheeks and chin.
Restylane and Perlane can be used to Augment facial contours, reshape the cheeks, chin and lips (lip augmentation), creating a more youthful looking appearance or achieving the overall facial shape you've always wanted. It's suitable for sunken cheeks, weak chins and thin lips.

Can also be used for filling in wrinkles and folds: medium to severe folds on the face may be corrected, particularly nasolabial folds, those lines that extend from the outer corners of your mouth to the nose.

Perlane is made up of larger gel particles containing a higher amount of hyaluronic acid, and is designed to be injected into the deeper layer of the dermis (or the surface of the subcutis). It is indicated for deeper folds while its counterpart, Restylane®, has a lower amount of hyaluronic acid and is more suited to treat finer wrinkles and lines.

Filling in deep acne scars: deepset scars resulting from severe acne breakouts can be filled in with Perlane.

The Procedure

Lasting up to half an hour, treatment with Perlane/Restylane involves an injection into the skin of the targeted area using an extremely fine needle. No allergy test is required. To ease discomfort, a topical anaesthetic may be applied beforehand. Immediately following the injection, improvement may be visible, however optimal results appear after the possible swelling and redness associated with injections subside (in about a week or less).

Like most other injectable fillers, results are temporary and last depending on the area, problem treated, and the injection technique. Generally speaking, results last anywhere from 6-9 months. Maintenance treatments may be scheduled to prolong results.

What Can You Expect?

After any injection, you may experience swelling, redness, pain, itching, discolouration, and tenderness. Other side effects include itching and tenderness Mineral based makeup can be used to camouflage the area as it heals. There is no downtime, and regular activities may be resumed after treatment. Any side effect will typically last less than a week.

All About Chemical Peel Treatments

Chemical Peels

Usually when you hear the term Chemical Peel, you may cringe. You may think: aggressive treatments, followed by burned, peeling and crusting skin.

At The Goldberg Centre for Cosmetic Surgery, we offer the best in chemical peel treatments from PCA Skin. PCA Skin are the first maker of blended chemical products, with over twenty years in the medical and clinical market as a peel formulator. PCA Professional TCA Peels are very different from the standard. Their TCA solutions are blends formulated with many ingredients including lactic acid, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), plumping phytohormones and kojic and azelaic acids to produce dramatic results without the discomfort and down time with traditional TCA Peels.

What Are Chemical Peels?

Safely administered by our medical aestheticians, chemical Peels are a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that improves the appearance of skin. It is a simple controlled treatment that removes and minimizes unappealing abnormalities, and dead surface skin cells, and reveals the fresh undamaged skin underneath. It boosts the growth of new cells and the production of collagen vital for firmness. It is a safe, pain free procedure that is non-toxic to skin cells.

What Can I Expect from a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peel treatments are targeted to your specific skin type. The treatment generally lasts under a half hour long. Immediately following a procedure the skin will be sensitive to sun exposure.  Redness and slight flaking may occur for a few days, depending on the strength of the peel.  A single treatment can achieve desired results, though a series of treatments, usually 3-6 are commonly required depending on the type of skin and the severity of the problem. A series of chemical peels scheduled at specific intervals can also strengthen the skin. In fact, this will make the treated skin stronger against the harmful affects of the environment.

Who Benefits from Chemical Peels?

The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of chemical peels are effective in easing inflammation and redness related to severe forms of acne or rosacea. Those who struggle with enlarged pores, sun damaged skin, poor complections plagued with acne and scaring, blotchy skin, wrinkles, pigmentation irregularities and even actinic keratoses would greatly benefit from a chemical peel. Each client has a different skin type and degree of damage, our highly trained and experienced staff will determine the appropriate degree of chemical peel best suited for you.
Chemical peels are not recommended for pregnant or lactating women.

For more information on chemical peels, please contact The Goldberg Centre for Cosmetic Surgery at 416.754.9444 to arrange a complimentary consultation.

Laser Hair Removal- Get rid of excess, unwanted hair the fast, effective way.

Humans have more hair follicles per square inch than most, higher primates including chimpanzees and gorillas. Some is coarse and dark, and some is so fine and pale that it isn’t visible to the naked eye.

When darker, coarser hair appears in places we don’t like or expect- like on the face, neck, abdomen, arms or underarms, or for men you may not like excess hair on your back, shoulders, chest, around the ears or between the eyebrows. When hair seems to grow back faster than you can pluck, shave or wax it, it may be the time to consider Laser hair removal.

Understanding Hair Removal

In the past the usual remedies for unwanted hair were plucking, shaving, waxing or chemical depilatories. Some are painful, some are messy, and all are only temporary.

For long term hair removal, electrolysis is popular and effective but can be uncomfortable and slow. Hair by hair, an electric current passes through a needle to destroy the hair root’s ability to grow. It typically takes months or more regular visits-even for small areas like the upper lip or between your eyebrows.

Now there is a more effective solution. Laser hair removal. The demand for intense pulsed light (IPL) hair removal and laser hair removal treatments are at an all-time high. This is not surprising, considering that traditional hair removal via electrolysis and waxing is painful and expensive.

A state-of-the-art system specifically designed to remove unwanted hair faster, with less discomfort, and more reliably than many other methods. It permanently reduces unwanted facial and body hair, in fewer treatments and with more comfort than is possible with traditional procedures.

Understanding Laser Treatments

A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. Different types of lasers produce different colours of light. The colour of light produced by a particular laser is on of the keys to its effect on hair follicles. The light emitted from a laser is well absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling numerous follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair’s regrowth.

What You Can Expect

The length of a laser session may be a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated. Because the laser tends to treat hair follicles that are in an active growth phase more than one treatment may be required to disable hair follicles that subsequently enter this growth phase.

Laser treatment itself may cause a slight tingling sensation. Laser removal procedure begins with application of a special numbing lotion to the area to be treated. After the patient is prepared, laser energy is applied in order to remove hair follicles. Due to the precisely targeted laser beam, only hair follicles are destroyed, leaving the surrounding skin intact. Immediate after-effects, if any, are minor. They may include redness and swelling, which disappear in a short time. Most people return to normal activity right away.
After a laser hair removal procedure, patients are advised to avoid tanning, and visiting the sauna or Jacuzzi for 24 hours. Most laser hair removal Toronto patients do not experience any discomfort and do not require special care following their treatments.

The Goldberg Centre for Vision Correction & Cosmetic Surgery features some of the latest laser hair removal equipment. Our systems can be used to treat all skin types.

BLU-U Light Photodynamic Therapy

Acne is a bacterial infection in the skin’s sebaceous gland. It results from the obstruction and inflammation of the sebaceous glands, and it affects 80% of the human population.

Blu-U treatment is not a laser. It emits a safe, cool, visible blue light to provide an effective solution for acne treatment. For a quicker and more aggressive approach, A Photosensitizing agent (Levulan) is applied to your skin. The levulan is then activated with a specific wavelength of light.  Blu-U eliminates P. acnes, the bacteria that causes acne. It takes only about 15 minutes per session for the face and neck.

(Levulan has been used extensively for the treatment for a variety of skin conditions, and it is approved by the FDA and Health and Welfare Canada for the treatment of sun damaged skin.)

Blu U Levulan acne treatment can be performed on all skin types, but it usually requires a number of sessions before a patient can see significant results. For people who are trying it for the first time, 2 sessions per week for a period of 4 weeks is generally recommended. The skin will be noticeably clearer in a matter of 2 to 5 weeks. Serious acne problems may take as many as 20 sessions before the skin becomes completely treated.

There may be minimal discomfort because of the nature of the Levulan topical solution, which usually improves immediately after treatment and ends within 24 hours.
After treatment, patients may experience some temporary reddening and minimal swelling of the acne and surrounding skin. The skin will be very sensitive to sunlight for 24-48 hours. Patients should apply an SPF 45 for the following weeks. You can use your topical acne lotions in between your BLU-U treatments.

Blu U Levulan reduces up to 81% of acne of the 90% who undergo treatment. Unlike other acne treatments too, it does not cause trauma or any side effects common to oral acne medication. The effects of Blu U Levulan last for months, but follow up procedures may be necessary after some time. Both Blu-U and Blu-U Levulan can dramaticly reduce the appearance of acne and scaring. It also improves sundamaged, finely lined, oily and porous skin as well as rosacea, blotchy pigmentation and scaly patches.

Toronto Microdermabrasion Specialists

At the Goldberg Centre for Vision Correction & Cosmetic Surgery, patients can choose from an array of sophisticated, highly effective facial beautification treatments.
Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical skin exfoliation technique that helps resurface the skin. Microdermabrasion exfoliation is performed with medical grade mineral crystals which brush the skin's surface with the aid of a gentle vacuum. This action removes dead and damaged cells at the skin's surface.  As the dead skin cells are removed, a fresh, healthy skin is revealed. The skin is left soft and supple, the complexion is improved, creating a healthy, youthful glow.

Depending on the unique needs of each microdermabrasion patient, this procedure might require 30 minutes to an hour to complete. While even a single treatment can improve the skin’s appearance, Dr. Goldberg recommends that patients undergo a series of microdermabrasion procedures and possibly combining with chemical peels and/or photot rejuventation to achieve the best possible results. Microdermabraison treatments are usually kept at 2-3 week intervals and maintenance treatments are usually performed once a month.

After a microdermabrasion treatment, the skin may feel tight. Some individuals experience light flaking of the skin, therefore, it is important to use a good at home skin care regime as advised by our skin care specialists for optimal results.  Otherwise there are minimal side effects.

Microdermabrasion is appropriate for both men and women with any skin type or colour, and it can benefit patients of all age groups. Anyone with aged, congested, flaky, dry, devitalized, thickened, blemished, dull and sun damaged skin will experience a rejuvenated and refreshed complexion.  Blotchiness, uneven skin tones and texture will also be improved. Microdermabraison has been documented to effectivley minimize the appearance of :
  • Mild acne scarring
  • Large and/or clogged pores
  • Superficial age spots
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Fine lines
  • Dull and congested skin
  • Blemishes
  • Uneven skin tones and textural damaged skin
